Spitfire: Too Much Rock for One Hand
Friday night we went to BoozeHounds to check out the new band Spitfire playing their first gig and we had a blast! These guys play a great mix of songs. From Wild Cherry's "Play That Funky Music" to Audioslave's "Cochise" and everything in between. The singer is a raging ball of energy and has the perfect voice for covering the great bands of the 90's like Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots and Collective Soul. (I was in 90's Heaven!) Bassist Xavier (some of you might know him from 10Stick) took over for some great 80's hits like The Romantics' "What I Like About You" and Billy Idol's "Dancing with Myself."
We couldn't stay in our seats and had to get up and dance when they played songs like Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name Of." And we weren't the only ones. The dance floor stayed pretty busy the whole time. The crowd loved these guys! At one point during the night, a girl came around collecting money to tip the band because she thought they were doing such a great job. As she presented them with the tip, she gave them a two-handed "Rock-n-Roll" sign because as she said, it was "too much rock for one hand!"
All the members of Spitfire are very talented. We were really impressed with the drummer, pounding out the rhythms! My only complaint of the night was that I wanted to hear a song or two that featured a little more guitarwork from Anthony, because he is a really good guitarist! Very clean, precise and quick. I wanted to hear more!
The crowd wanted to hear more too - when the band was done, they were screaming for more! Don't worry people! You can hear more of Spitfire Saturday (Aug 13) at The Irish Pub or the next Saturday (Aug 20) at Firehouse Pub & Grill.
