Voicing My Opinion here, nobody throw anything at me it's just that I had a couple of experiences lately with just how damn difficult it is to play guitar, or any instrument or art.
When I hear someone being slammed, and unless they're godawful like me, or they aren't 'good' people all around, I think of these times.
Recently at a show a very capable, temporary (props to that already) drummer missed a beat on a song. Someone freaked the hell out and said, "Oh no he butchered the song! What a jerk!" No, it wasn't audibly butchered, I didn't even notice. No one is perfect.
Hindsight 20/20 tells me I should have told mgmt. OK UP WITH THE LIGHTS, CUT THE SOUND - and told this person to get their ass on stage and finish the set.
Anyway I also have the great, if not impossible, opportunity to see what it's like to play guitar with my b/f's extensive guitar collection and amp at my disposal.
When he leaves, he'll lay a beautiful Fender Strat in my lap, and just recently I got to use a sustainer ;)...his poor neighbors.
After having watched him play like the devil himself, I figure I can put something out, but my hands are small. (So are D'Arcy's, I think, so that's no excuse). I learned a power chord, and that is it.
Sureee flip to another power chord, the verse of all metal, do a solo, do a melody - eeesh!
...next time someone wants to diss a good musician that does not play themselves, you try :)
