Thanks to my friend jeordie on MySpace:
So today, Cold came to town (sorta, if you drive out past town 10 minutes) and played an amazing show to all present. They played at Boerne Havelina Harley Davidson for KISS FM's annual Hog Heaven Holiday, which also featured Smile Empty Soul, Theory Of A Deadman, and Saliva. First, let's begin with the openers Smile Empty Soul, who very unenergetically, played about 30 minutes of slop starting at 5pm. I didn't get really excited about them, and they played their hits also like Bottom of a Bottle, the one about kids, and someother one that was played on the radio alot. Anyway, nothing new, tiring vocals, weak music, very poor crowd response and participation. I woulda rather played with myself than watch them.
Next was Theory Of A Deadman, who surprisingly caught my attention. Very strong songs, rather hip. This band was fun to watch and enjoy. I just wish they didn't sound much like Nickelback. Oh well. They took the stage at 6 pm and played about 40 minutes of heavy guitar driven rock, including their new hit no surprise. Man, the singer must be really mad about the bitch leaving him.
Next was Cold, who took the stage at about 7:10 pm, and man, did this really heat things up. First off to begin with, the crowd went from very lazy to awake in a matter of minutes. The majority of the crowd was mainly there for Cold. As they began their set with "Back Home", off their latest release, A Different Kind Of Pain, roses were being thrown onstage, as vocalist Scooter Ward wanted. A pigeon flew up above resembling a dove, and just really set the mood. New guitarists Mike Booth and Matt Loughran did Terry Balsamo and Kelly Hayes some justice, but the same amount of energy and emotion was still felt. Sam, Jeremy, Mike, and Matt even worked the sound board for Theory during their set. Jeremy, Mike, and Matt all wore black jumpsuits, and Sam still looks like a vampire playing drums. Scooter looked skinnier than when I saw them back two years ago with Evanescence. The band played a good chunk of ADKOP, as well as songs from 13 WTBOS and YOTS, no self titled stuff which I was really hoping for. The highlights of their set were A Different Kind Of Pain and a very beautiful piano/rock out version of Rain Song. These two songs almost brought tears to my eyes as I sang along to them. The lights were also awesome, as the sky got darker about 15 minutes into their set. A very powerful and emotional set Cold played, and the one hour they played wasn't enough for me, but hey, I got to see my boys again, and damn it felt good!
Saliva... sucked. I didn't even stay for them too long, and I left during their first song and after I ate my hot dog.
