Joeless Swindles

from Mitch Webb and The Swindles:

Joeless Swindles find old age, treachery and whimsical youth to fill his shoes!

Fear not, he's still with the band! Just gone for the weekend!

Esquire on Friday night and Riley's on Saturday night!

This Friday night in Downtown San Antonio we will be at the best bar on the River, The Esquire. This is the last real San Antonio owned and run bar on the river and you owe it to yourself to get your butt down there and support them before the whole downtown scene becomes a big tasteless corporate turd. Seriously, the riverwalk is changing and I believe that change can be good, but things are really beginning to snowball down there.

Let's live in the moment however and enjoy what we've got while we still have it. Don't be one of the countless folks that come up to me and ask me if I ever played at Taco Land how you always wanted to go there but never had the nut sack to make it happen. The oyster of experience awaits you this Friday at the Esquire.

Home to downtown good times! We start at 9:30!

You know the skinny on the Esquire: the longest, most notorious, liquor slinging establishment South Texas has ever seen. Come down and visit Earl on Friday night and step into a big part of the historical nightlife the real river city has to offer!

Senor Reyes is out of town this weekend, so that gives us a chance to call up a few of our old friends and have them stand in his formidable worn out boots or Chuck Taylors.

Hey, speaking of Joe, he just heard 4th of July on XM's X Country! He's obviously unhappy with his guitar work and questioning why his inner source did not allow him to channel Speedy West!

"Ah the pity youth is wasted on the young" George Bernard Shaw

First the whimsical youth! This is a photo of Will Owen Gage. He is going to join us this Friday at the Esquire. Will is a really great guitarist and has played a few fill-ins for Joe already. He is the primary guitar player for Jay Boy Adams and as such has added a pocketful of fancy country licks to his already bountiful blues repertoire. He is young and I'm not gonna say how young, but let's just say he doesn't remember the Tower being erected. Okay... that won't work, how about he doesn't remember the Judge John Wood assassination by Woody Harrelson's dad... Still not gonna work. He can't remember Handy Dan's? Ah crap.. I give up!

Watching Will play reminds me of when I saw Charlie Sexton down at the Friendly Spot. Youth on the verge of greatness. But enough about this Mensa guitar master's age and more about the man himself. I can sum it up in describing this photo. Good eyewear and bad guitar strap. If you could hear a photo: this one would sound great.

Swindles on MySpace!

Yes it's true. We are on myspace. Click on the logo and you will be zoomed off to the land of sexual predators, half assed bands and lonely folks.

Old age and treachery arrive at Riley's on Saturday!

Here's Rileys! Ouch, I just bumped my head on that rafter. This is where you can find us on Saturday night. Somebody up there is having his birthday party and requested that the club hire us for that evening! Thank you sir and happy birthday, you have obviously grown an incredible taste in fine music for your age, whatever that may be. By the way, this is not a private party so that means free cake for everybody, right?

Here's the real treachery!

Hey birthday boy, RELAX, here's who I'm talking about when I say old age and treachery! That's Casper Rawls and he's gonna be sitting in for Joe on Saturday night! Don't know who Casper is?

This Helotes, Texas native has been around the world with his guitar, and along the way has recorded or performed with his friends The LeRoi Brothers, Toni Price, Buck Owens, James Burton, Albert Lee, The Derailers, Doug Sahm, Champ Hood and Webb Wilder. Just look at that smug confident smirk on his face. Musical influences include James Burton, Clarence White, Buck Owens, Don Rich and the Buckaroos, and Freddie King. If you need to know more just google his name, hook up the catheter and start reading.

To quote Big Dave Wasson, "It's gonna be a guitar slingin' chicken pickin' motha fucka!" I just want to watch the 6'5" Rawls play stooped over for 3 hours under Riley's low stage ceiling!

It was nice visiting with you. You seem like nice people. See you this weekend,

Mitchell Justice Webb and The Swindles
