Groovin' Birthday and a Blissiversary

Last weekend I stopped in at Soho to say Happy Birthday to Matt Wolff of the Groove Movement and hear a bit of groovin' jams.

Pleasant surprise - 51 Acres had agreed to open for the Groove Movement, so I got the "Full Weave." (If you don't know what means, read the Groove Movement Interview I did last year.) It's always great to hear these guys jam.

I hung around for a while, took lots of pictures. I never got to meet the famous (infamous?) Steve Hahn, who was there for the occasion, but that's ok. Though I did want to thank him for making my job more bearable when I used to do data entry. Nothing livens up a boring job like listening to Lisle & Hahn!

I also didn't get any cake. But that's ok, too. Anyway, here are some of the pics I took. (No videos cuz, stupid me, I forgot to buy extra batteries for my camera.)

A Full Weave

Then I headed down the street to BoozeHounds, where Bliss was celebrating their 6th anniversary. Now, I've seen some people dissing Bliss around here now and then. I didn't believe them, because I've seen Bliss before, years ago at Papa Woody's. That bar is gone now, but Bliss is still alive and kickin' butt! So, I say ignore the haters. They're just jealous. There are many reasons to go see Bliss. Here are three:

1) Florin. This guy kicks major bootie on the guitar.

2) To try to get a picture of Rikk's face. Seriously, I never can get one!

3) Chrissy Bliss. Don't let the package fool you. She may be all little and cute, but this girl's got a huge voice. She will rock your ass off!

Oh, and if you look closely at the picture of Florin, you'll notice something on the curtain behind him. I saw it when I was going through my pictures and zoomed in on it, and sure enough, it was this:

51 Acres - Check 'em out on TV Sep 1st on KENS 5's "Great Day S.A." They'll be on around 9:45 am. Then go see them live at their CD release party that night at Rebar. 51 Acres will also be playing Incarnate Word's Wordstock 2006 on Sep 9th.

Groove Movement - You can catch them this Thursday (8/31) at Rebar with Zeale32 and Phranchyze 1, dealing out some "hip-jazz-funk." They'll also be at Limelight Sep 1st and at Revolution Room on the 9th.

Bliss - Sep 2 at Stone Werks at the Quarry (except you should at least stop by our Virgo Bash at BoozeHounds that night...then you can go see Bliss if you want; or you can just go see them same place on Sep 9). They'll also be at Legends Sports Bar on the 8th.
