San Antonio, TX/ Sunken Garden Theater— Icoco Productions announces that Kin-Kon Indy Label Mexican recording artist Kinky will headline Musica Sin Fronteras at Sunken Gardens on October 27. The festival is a contemporary reflection and celebration of the common heritage between Hispanic and North American cultures, and in particular, it represents a call for a MORE HUMANE BORDER, during this turbulent time of immigration reform law debate.
MSF brings together seven performing artists from Mexico and the US to promote cultural exposure and understanding through the universal language and discovery of music. Enjoying a set along side the rock-electronica-Latin rhythm-freestyle beats of Kinky are San Antonio’s own spanglish mixologists, Bombasta, playing their special brand of cumbia-reggae-funk, and Monterrey recording artists Nina (rock-pop), Album (progressive-indy), She’s a Tease (indy), Kurkova (electronic experimental), Mario & Camaron (latin-folk), and Dendron (electronica). The event also features food, beverage, and merchandise vendors as well as DJ’s and graffiti and spoken word artists.
This common stream of music across borders amplifies a non-partisan call for humane solutions to the current immigration debate. Musica Sin Fronteras sounds off against any legislation to build physical barriers between countries. It resonates against making it illegal to supply human beings with the bare necessities of survival. MSF is a musical celebration of diversity that drowns out the radical voices in this debate calling for a “purer” America. Now is the time to turn the microphone away from any solution founded in or supported by racism.
Musica Sin Fronteras is not organized to endorse any specific political agenda. It is not looking for would-be revolutionaries and radicals to incite further violence and division. Musica Sin Fronteras is a direct way to encourage discussion and dialogue between groups and does not support any agenda that seeks to further divide people. Music is about opening up and embracing, about taking in new things and, yes, about having a good time even in the face of adversity.
