What's Up

Just to let you know...I am working on the write up from 2 weeks ago. Yeah, I know, it's late as shit!! But I've been sick all week with some kind of cold or virus or whatever. But I AM working on it. I went through most of the pics today, still have some more to go through. And since I lost my last hard drive, I lost my program to work with videos, so I'm trying to find one to lighten them up. I have some cool videos from Sam's that I want to put up. Hopefully I will be done tomorrow.

Saturday Night at The Venue

NO Tool...Again?!

Looks like Tool is going to have to re-reschedule!

From Reuters:

Tool tour postponed after drummer injury

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Fans who bought tickets to Tool's upcoming spring tour will have to wait a little longer see the hard rock band live. The outing has been postponed indefinitely after drummer Danny Carey tore his bicep, requiring surgery.

According to Tool's Web site (http://www.toolband.com/), the procedure "went well," but Carey will not recover in time for the planned start of the tour on March 15 at the Pearl in Las Vegas. Rescheduled dates have yet to be announced.

The tour was to keep Tool on the road in North America through the end of April. It is expected the band will be able to honor a previously announced co-headlining appearance at the Bonnaroo Festival in mid-June in Manchester, Tenn.

Tool is touring in support of its latest studio album, "10,000 Days," which has sold more than 1.4 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Tool guitarist Adam Jones won a best recording package Grammy earlier this month in his capacity as art director of "10,000 Days."

Exit 3-1-who?

Ya, ya, we know...it's been a while since the greatest band in the history of bands named Exit 314 has taken the stage. The holidays, jobs, various medical stuff -- you know, life -- have been harder to work around than a tumped over trailer load of angora goats on I-10 at rush hour.

But, dear friends o' the band, Exit 314 finally rides again! Here are the specs:

When: Saturday, Feb. 24, 8 pm

Where: Villarreal's Ice House, 18508 Bandera Rd. (about 3 miles past Helotes, on the right side of Hwy. 16 as you're headed out of town).

Who: Besides the band? Let's see, there's our bud Emil, who plans to make his homemade and almost famous German "frickadillies" -- certainly misspelled but definitely tasty, and free to all comers. Then there's our patron saint, Christine Villarreal, who loves the band and has never failed to charm anyone who graces the door of her establishment. And we hope the usual strong contingent of band friends, inlaws and outlaws will show up in force.

Why: Because, dude (or Dudette), we've all been cooped up by mostly horrible weather all winter, and it's time to get a head start on spring and rock out with the band! 'nuff said!

Need more directions? Call Christine or Angel at Villarreal's, 210-695-3627.

See ya Saturday night! -- Eric, Albert, Bruce, Joel and Randy

New Navigation and Stuff

Hey everybody, hope everyone had/is having a Happy Valentine's Day!

On the new navigation above: Blogger has finally caught up with the other blog sites and added tags. So now I can simply add the tag "Show Review" or "Interview" or whatever to a post, instead of having that bulky list of past Reviews, Interviews, etc. up there. Much neater, don't you think?

I also wanted to let any bands wondering if I'm going to put up something about last weekend, that YES, I am. But I saw like 9 bands last weekend, so it's taking me a while. Should be up this weekend.

OK, that's it. Rock on.

Rowan

Diane on Johnny Drama

Thanks to Diane for this review of Johnny Drama Saturday night at The Bitter End:

I had the pleasure of going Saturday night to the Bitter End and catching this CLASS ACT. I've always heard great things about the band and finally I had the chance to find out for myself. This band really takes pride in their deliverance, stage presence and making sure the crowd gets what they want. The house was packed and the place was banging.

There was a special celebration that night for the new addition to the band, Robert, he is the new DRUMMER. Hope that you enjoyed your b-day celebration but if I remember correctly it really isn't till Valentines Day.

Cesar, great show and great group of musicians. Love J.J. and that genuine smile. Al, ROCK oN! and Robert Stay just as sweet and fine as you have always been.

If you heard about the band and always wondered , wonder no more go out and check out the band this weekend, Friday, February 16 at SOHO Lounge. Believe me this is a talented group of musicians who want nothing more than to rock you out and have you coming back for more.

Jason Sandbach Memorial Show at The Rabbit Monday

Jason Sandbach Memorial Show

Fort Sam soldier's death is a mystery

Web Posted: 02/05/2007 11:39 PM CST

Express-News

A 29-year-old soldier training at Fort Sam Houston died from unknown causes over the weekend, a post spokesman said.

Pvt. Jason Sandbach was pronounced dead at Brooke Army Medical Center after friends found him on the floor before 9 a.m. Sunday, said Fort Sam Houston spokesman Phil Reidinger.

Several friends playing video games with Sandbach said there wasn't any indication of problems. They left the room and returned to find him unresponsive.

The soldiers called the Fire Department at 8:55 a.m., applying CPR until fire personnel arrived.

Medical personnel tried to resuscitate Sandbach before the ambulance arrived at BAMC.

Reidinger said preliminary reports didn't show any sign of foul play.

The Army's Criminal Investigation Command will conduct a formal investigation, Reidinger said.

Sandbach was assigned to the veterinary training program at the 187th Medical Battalion.

Bombasta & El Tule at Ruta Maya Saturday

BOMBASTA RETURNS TO
RUTA MAYA on the RIVERWALK
Saturday, FEBRUARY 10th

With Special Guests:
EL TULE from Austin

Bombasta and El Tule will play Ruta Maya Riverwalk Saturday night

Local Spanglish mix masters, Bombasta, will be returning to Ruta Maya on the Riverwalk Saturday, February 10th and will be joined by the eclectic sounds of Austin's own, El Tule. Saturday's performance will serve as a "pre-Valentine's Day" show, and will stress universal love through music and dance. This will be Bombasta's first performance of the new year at Ruta Maya, who has recently upgraded their sound system and added a full time sound engineer to their payroll, in their attempts to develop the venue into one of San Antonio's leading live music stages.

Bombasta's uniquely San Anto sound has been gaining them a reputation in the state as forerunners in the urban Latino alternativo genre and has been placing them in high demand throughout central and South Texas. This eight-piece ensemble brandishes a full horn section and incorporates samples, accordion, tasteful guitar work and turntablism, coupled with pulsating rhythms and conscious lyricism delivered by homegrown visionary, El Robotico 2012. Bombasta will be joined by their friends from the North, El Tule, who have been making their way into the fabric of San Antonio's music scene with their bilingual mix of Latin rock and cumbia beats; their pairing with Bombasta is one that will surely keep the crowd moving all night long.

Visit the Bombasta's websites at www.bombasta.com or www.myspace.com/bombasta; El Tule's websites at www.eltuleband.com or www.myspace.com/eltule for band bios, press clippings, fan postings, images, etc. or at Ruta Maya's website at www.rutamayariverwalk.com.

Happy Birthday, Rikk & Florin!

from Bliss:

Bliss-a-maniacs, get those shot glasses ready for a a full weekend of BLISS

First, we would like to give a big thanks to all that came out and saw us this past weekend. 2 great parties in 2 great cities!

This weekend we celebrate the birthday of both Florin and Rikk, so needless to say there will be a shortage of martini's and Jager, so let's get this party started this Friday............

BLISS makes a return to TRIPPS in Universal City. This is a club we really respect because they actually came out to a different club to see us and request us to play at their establishment. Nice, big room where our soundman can go nuts, pool tables, darts, shuffle, all the games, spirits, and great rock-n-roll this Friday.

Then this Saturday BLISS prepares to pop the cherry of another new club for the band, the famed BROADWAY BAR, situated two blocks down on Broadway outside the loop. This place is known for their massive Saturday Night party's, and we get a chance to show case 6 new songs to San Antonio at the BROADWAY BAR!!
