S & M this week

Damn... the name of this uh, "band" takes some getting used to... It's
Scottie again, and it's my "Birthweek." For all of you incredible
musicians I've gotten to know over the course of the last few years, I'm
celebrating on Wednesday night @ Retox (West Ave. & Patricia, for those
of you who have been living under a rock) and am encouraging all you
like minded wanna-be rockstars to bring your instrument, voice, guitar
or other, with you and lets just plug in and jam our asses off!!! There
will be cheap drinks in abundance, and this is just an excuse for us all
to get together and network a bit and shoot the proverbial sh*t over a
few drinks; as trying to get us all in one place at the same time is a
bit difficult to say the least. Spread the word, we play at 10pm, and
finish when I pass out and someone else picks up the Mic.

For those who can't make it Wednesday night, I'll be sitting in on
Vocals with my homies in 4-Fifteen on Friday @ Tonic (The old Sky
Lounge, and much improved now...) Thanks to everyone who has supported
me both with 4-Fifteen and now with S & M. I appreciate you from the
bottom of my bottle of SOCO... Keep Rockin S.A....

That's right Skunkfans,

Your favorite party band will be rockin' Rebar next Wednesday November 21st!! We played the same date last year and it was crazy off the hizzie. A-hem, I mean it was rockin!

Rebar is located off of Broadway less than a mile inside loop 410. There is NO COVER charge, so that means more money to spend on getting WASTED!!

Dont forget Wednesday night November 21st kicks off the beginning of a four day weekend for a lot of folks. Plus friends and family will be in town anyway so bring 'em all to the biggest party in town!

See you there!!

Rick Majni

Just got word that Rick Majni of N'Somnia is critically ill and not expected to live through the week. I am so sorry to hear that. He is a nice guy and a very talented musician.

I received an update on Rick today from Val Mora of N'Somnia:

We will celebrate the life of our good friend Rick Majni, who passed away this morning, on Sun the 25th of Nov at Charlie Brown's from 3pm thru the evening. Rick was the epitome of a human being. He loved playing music and he loved his friends. He embraced everyone without judgement and showed me how to fight the good fight. I will miss my brother. Please send a prayer out for Richard Warren Majni - a good man.

Val

Maybe Not

We did manage to send a large enough payment to the credit card company and I think it will get there in time to keep things from shutting down now. I'm not sure if it will cover everything for the next month or not, though. (I have several things that are automatically charged to it, and a couple are yearly...not sure which, if any, are due soon...I'm bad at keeping track of that stuff.) Hopefully.

There's still the problem that I can't seem to find the time to keep everything up like I want to. The schedule looks pathetic. But if the site stays up, I'll keep trying to figure that out and hopefully I'll be able to do more.

It would be so much easier if I didn't have whatever sleep disorder I obviously have! (I don't think it's insomnia, I think it's this.) I did fine when I was allowed to sleep on the schedule that feels normal to me (about 3AM to 11AM), but I can't do that now. So I spend an hour or two lying in bed every night trying to get sleepy, and then I nap mid-morning. And if I get on the computer instead of lying in bed, it just takes me that much longer to get to sleep.

Anyway, fingers crossed, we'll see what happens!

Looks Like It's Over

Well, Hell.

Seems like SA Rocks may have to come to an end. As you probably know, I have been having trouble on this new schedule of mine, keeping up with things around here. I hate that, but I figured, “Hey, at least with the schedule fixed to where bands can list their own gigs, and with several people who can post news on the blog, and with the forum where people can discuss things, the site can pretty much run on its own and I can just jump in there when I can.”

But now I’ve run across a problem that I don’t know how to fix. I cannot, as things stand right now, afford to pay for the site to keep running. We have hit a rough patch and my credit card, which I use to pay for everything, is over the limit. And I don’t have the money to pay enough on it to cover the over-the-limit fees plus next month’s charges. So, whether I like it or not, things are probably going to start shutting down.

So, unless I suddenly have a long lost rich uncle die or find money buried in my backyard, looks like SA Rocks will be gone within the week.

I have had a blast doing this and wish I had a more business-oriented mind so that I could figure out how to keep the site up and running the way it should be. I love all you guys, and, as always...

SAN ANTONIO ROCKS!!

Get Elevated at SILO and rock out at BABCOCK with ALTER EGO

RETOX IS OPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey this is Scottie (former vocalist of 4Fifteen),

I have scaled back to doing acoustic stuff with Mark and we go by the name (S & M), check us out around town!!! (SHAMELESS PLUG)

Anywho, I was invited out last night to check out the new bar we are all anxiously waiting to open, called RETOX.  They have had some delays in opening which have gotten some bands bumped, but Dave @ RETOX is handling this all like the professional he is, and re-booking all of us and taking very good care of us.  Why can't there be more Dave's out there?  So I dropped in to check it out on the eve of it's opening, and immediately upon entering, I'm thinking HOLY SH!T this is NOT the old Iguana Bay...  Seriously folks, they gutted this place and started from scratch and man does it show.  RETOX is nothing short of amazing.  Let me paint a picture for you...  Upon entering, look to your right and see three large Vegas-Style air cushioned high backed booths.  Dave actually got these in Vegas, nice....  They are going to be elevated bigtime, with steps up to them.  You can sit there and see everything that's going on.  Smaller tables up front, taller tables in back, and the booths even higher in the back.  All so we the people can see the stage, which can support all your gear and the whole band more than comfortably, and for those nights when the Spurs are playing, the drop down projection TV (Freakin' HUGE by the way) takes up the whole stage, and they've got it all in HD, complete with the NFL Package and HD Plasma's all over the place.  This just might be the best place in town to catch a game, no joke.  I felt like I was actually part of the Cleveland/Utah game last night, and the sound was perfect.  As far as gigs go, you can plug and play which I know many of us love to take a break from the heavy load in.  The stage is fully carpeted and raised about 2 feet up, 3 feet on each side over the subs.  They raised the ceiling, and this place really just looks TONS bigger than it used to.  Lighting is LCD, under the bar and pulses with the music, changing colors.  I got a good look at the band schedule up on the back wall of the club, and Dave's gone out of his way to make sure we are all well entertained at RETOX.  The schedule was for the full month, and I saw names like Burndown, Drive, Chris Lopez (full band and Acoustic), Johnny Drama, Brent and Dave, Radio Junkies,  and many, many more.  While I was there Nathan from PapaWood showed up to talk turkey as well.  There's a patio area out back, that they've cleaned up and are going to be BBQ'ing on the weekends for the games.   I saw the drink specials on the Band schedule as well, and let's just say for those of us on a budget, this is gonna be a great place to hang out.

AND NOTE:  They are finally OPEN tonight, and MINUS ZERO is gonna be poppin' the cherry!!!!

Bottom line, I was blown away, and am just grateful for the opportunity to jam there.  Thanks for the invite Dave, and good luck to RETOX!!!
We'll see you out there tonight.

Sneaker's Grand Opening; Saturday Night

S & M @ RETOX Cancelled

Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, our gig @ RETOX has been cancelled for this evening.  We will be out there on the 28th as scheduled.  It was necessary for the management to cancel the gig due to factors related to opening the bar, and we have been given an alternate date.  Much thanks to Dave for letting us know ahead of time, he assures me this place is really amazing and will be worth the wait.

Supercrash at Paparay's

S & M @ The Falls & RETOX

Looking for some good clean wholesome fun on a weeknight?  Well, we're a lot of fun, but we can't help you with the clean or wholesome part...  C'mon out to The Falls tonight (Tuesday) and enjoy a night of cheap drinks and good times!  Domestic Beer and Well Drinks are just a buck all night long.  Then on Wednesday we're breaking in RETOX on Patricia Ave at just before West Ave.  (Used to be Iguana Bay, only now it's COMPLETELY different from what I hear.)  We're excited to be out there to help Dave give his new baby some wings!!!  Thanks to Scott from SOHO for the recommendation and kind words to get us in @ RETOX, and for not mentioning to Dave that Marky has a midget fetish.  We start @ 10pm both nights.  Look for us @ Hemingway's Wurzbach on the 14th, and very soon we'll be in the rotation @ Highlander Bar on Fredericksburg Road.  Much love to all the musicians and service industry for coming out to support Russell on his Birthday last night @ The Falls...

In a word, it was....  ROWDY.
