Brad was a very dear friend of ours, not just from Texas Special and Swampmouth but as a sweet, loving person and he will be missed dearly.
His brother James told me earlier Brad would want everyone to have a drink and play their guitars and...celebrate life.

Bye Brad, I'll Miss You
I don't think that Brad would want us to be sad for him, so I won't, although I can't help but be sad for myself and James and M'lissa and Delrick and everyone else who knew Brad, because I know he will be very much missed. But for Brad, I will drink a beer and play some tunes and trust that he is still enjoying himself in whatever comes next.
Mainly, I just wanted to share my favorite picture that I have of Brad. I always loved this one. Peace and love just seem to emanate from him in this pic. I always thought that was pretty cool and really fit his personality.

Halfway Legal by Alexis Marcelo

http://www.halfwaylegal.com/
Halfway Legal were at their finest this past Friday night at The Bitter End!
I have seen Halfway Legal play many times at multiple venues, but this was by far their best show. They are a unique band, playing songs that most four or five piece bands wouldn't even think about because of the complexity of the songs.
It is a breath of fresh air not to hear all of today's top 50 rock hits.
Instead, when you sit in the crowd at a Halfway Legal show, it doesn't matter your age or taste because they work in music that everyone can enjoy. Friday night the members of Halfway Legal did just that.
The crowd was on their toes waiting to hear what was going to be next, ranging from Red Hot Chili Peppers...to Black Sabbath...to Buck Cherry...to Led Zeppelin...to Hoobastank...to Rush and so much more. Their song choices are amazing, the talent is overflowing, they have a stage presence like no other band and the crowd was in awe.
This band truly has chemistry together and it is evident in each show. Friday's show put the cherry on top. I have been to that bar before many times when Halfway Legal was not playing, and have never seen a crowd like they had. Their fan base is large and getting larger every day.
I would recommend to any one who has not seen them before, to check them out, you will not be disappointed. For those who have seen them, continue checking them out because the shows get better each time.
Best of Luck,
Alexis Marcelo

Rock on the Rooftop @ ArtPace - 10/24

ArtPace hosts a rare rooftop performance Friday, featuring dynamic indie rockers Druggist and multi-instrumentalist Marcus Rubio and the Gospel Choir of Pillows in a show that coincides with the residency of artist Richie Budd. Budd, a multi-media sculptor, invited the bands to join in on his ArtPace residency for the show, during which he’ll be handling lighting, bubble, and fog machines, confetti cannons, and more. Equally as comfortable playing organic piano pop or guitar-heavy futuristic rock, Druggist crosses musical genres effortlessly and consistently delivers high-energy, infectious live shows. The band will be performing with a six-piece lineup that has been assembled to help promote the upcoming release of their third full-length album The Pile On. The live set will feature 14 of the 19 songs from the forthcoming album. Free, 8pm, ArtPace, 445 Main Ave., (210) 212-4900.

Adventures of JP Promotions (part 3) - Ballistic
What a night!!
We got the chance to catch Ballistic perform at the Revolution Room (8123 Broadway St) last night and man what a surprise we were in for. This group of guys (Robert, Lewis, Issac, Adam and Andy) make sure they have enough tricks (songs) in there bag to keep the crowd entertained.
If I wasn't there myself I would probably not believe these guys play songs by Faith No More (Epic), Black Crows (Hard to Handle), Finger Eleven (Paralyzer), Tool (Sober) and more!! What a wide variety of music!! Way to go Ballistic!!!
For those of you who have not had the opportunity to catch a show by Ballistic, I would recommend doing so. This is a great group of guys who are on a mission to deliver a fun packed evening of music!!
I want to thank Ballistic for inviting us out and for their hospitality. Be sure to check out some pics from the show.

Definitely It's a Shame
First I want to say thank you to the people who recently contributed to the site to help us out. The help is very appreciated.
As you know, I no longer have the extra time to work on the site that I used to have. Kelly has been keeping up the schedule and blog on her own time out of the goodness of her heart. I do still pay about $250 a year to keep the site up.
It would be really nice if I could at least recoup the cost of keeping the site up and be able to give Kelly some kind of recompense for the time and effort that she puts in. I could justify neglecting some of my other responsibilities to make time to work on the site if it wasn't already costing me more than I can afford.
I've never intended to make a killing off the site, but when I can't at least make back the cost of maintenance, it's very discouraging. And I'm sure that Kelly is beginning to feel that her efforts are unappreciated. With more help, we could put more time and effort and money into the site and make it better, help it grow.
But when bands aren't even willing to donate a few bucks toward a site that has given them years of free promotion, that kind of growth just isn't going to happen. And that's a shame.
And the most Absurd person of the year award goes to...

Sexto Sol departs ... kind of.
After over 8 years of playing music together, the band is hanging it up. All five members of the band - Eddie Hernandez, Samuel Villela, Greg Goodman, James Moody and Juan Ramos, have decided to move on to bigger and better things, on both musical and personal levels.
Upon making this decision, the biggest regret that we have as a band is letting down our fans. We have immensely enjoyed performing for all of you who have continually supported us over the years, attending shows and purchasing our albums, and helping to create a community of Sexto Sol fans in San Antonio and beyond.
So from here on out, our Myspace page will continue to serve as a source for those who wish to keep up with its individual members as well as a source to purchase our CDs which we will continue to sell through cdbaby.com, itunes.com, snocap, and others.
Also, we are continuing our commitment to a music video project for "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" directed and produced by Lazlo Rain, which has already started filming scenes on location in San Antonio.
When I get word of a web page for the project I will let you know here.
Once again, thanks to everyone who supported the band. You know we love you.

Rockin with Chill Factor

Adventures of JP Promotions (part1) - Rockin with Chill Factor
Ok so we have decided to start something new. On the nights JP Promotions is not busy we plan on going to watch one band/group that is not part of the JP Promotions family just to show our support for the local live music scene. So if you are playing in San Antonio take a look at our calendar and if the JP Promotions team is available give us a shout and invite us to your show.
On to the first adventure...
Last night (Friday Oct 3) JP Promotions ventured over to Speedway Sports Bar (8811 Grissom) to check out our new friends Chill Factor.
I had the opportunity to visit with Kurt (guitarist) about the band between sets and I was surprised he told me the band had only been together for a short period of time, approx. 1 month.
These guys put on a good show with lots of crowd interaction during and between sets. They play some great tunes and sound good. So if you have not been to one of their shows you should go check them out. Oh, and you will surely be entertained by Kurts off the cuff humor between songs so not only do you get to rock out to some good music you get a bonus of a good laugh!
Thanks for inviting us out guys, we had a blast!! Best of Luck!!

Let's ROCK the f*#k out this weekend at Click's! If you haven't heard their incredible new sound system or seen the new light sytem, it's truly a great place to enjoy live music, shoot some pool and generally have a good time with a great bar and wait staff and cool surroundings!
