Apaso's “Illaments”
When Apaso takes the stage at Limelight on Saturday to celebrate the release of his “Illaments” CD, the MC will be coming home. In 1994, when Limelight was called Wacky's, Apaso performed in the room during his first hip-hop battle. Since then, Apaso has worked with the group Illaments, after which the new CD was named, contributed to the albums “Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood,” “The Frank White Dedication,” Chisme's “Storytellers” and Mexican Stepgrandfather's “Occupied State.”
Apaso draws from local flavor as he mixes and matches words that run from party time (“Tequila”) to socio-political-meets-sports (“Deuces”). Apaso is quick with words, funky with beats. The CD release party will feature like-minded artists Chisme, OBX/Tech-Neek, Survive Tomorrow, Los Nahuatlatos and the Bazooka B-Boy Crew. Doors open at 9 p.m. Cover charge is $5. Limelight is a 21+ venue.
