Pop goes Nightrocker
Nightrocker Live will be the setting Friday for a show called San Antonio Pop Fest. This is not pop ala Barry Manilow or Pat Boone, but pop in the sense of original rock 'n' roll that's built on melody with lyrics out front. The bill includes two San Antonio bands, Whiskey Ships and The Rosedale Highs, Austin's Leatherbag and a pair of S.A. pop/rock/etc. stalwarts working solo: Joe Reyes and Jason Treviño.
The word “pop” often generates sneers for being safe, homogenized and middle of the road, but the participants are anything but. Pay attention and you're hear challenging words and enough backbeat to keep heads and feet moving.
