The Echocentrics, Chico Mann and Mexicans with Guns at The Park at Pearl, Fri. May 20th (6PM)





Echocentrics is a new project from Austin-based Grammy award winning producer Adrian Quesada, of Grupo Fantasma, and one of the minds behind bands like Ocote Soul Sounds, and Brownout. Teaming up with Argentinean singer Natalia Clavier from Thievery Corporation and Brazil-based Tita Lima, they have carved out a southern-fried, laid back, and psychedelic-tinged sound. Their new album “Sunshadows” was released this week off of Ubiquity Records

Chico Mann, a.k.a. Marquitos Garcia, best known for his jams with the Brooklyn-based Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, will take you back in time to the 70’s and 80’s with his music. Born in New York City to Cuban parents, his heritage can be heard in his music, which combines Afrobeat, tropical rhythms, and 80’s New York and Miami Latin freestyle, and backs it all up with an electronic beat. His most recent album “Analog Drift”, his first for Wax Poetic Records, debuted strong receiving critical acclaim and heavy rotation on progressive stations such as KCRW in Los Angeles where it was the number one cd played weeks after its release.

San Antonio-based DJ Ernest Gonzales, a.k.a. Mexicans with Guns, is first recognized by the luchador Mexican wrestler mask. MwG’s sound is a unique mix of anything and everything, from cumbia and techno to video game beats and rap. His sets are loaded with high-energy music that combines the sounds of his Hispanic heritage with the modern day influences of electronic, bass, and hip-hop from Mexico, London, the Dirty South, and beyond. This Exponential Records producer has done remixes for the likes of Bassnectar, Rainbow Arabia, CYNE, Faunts, Yppah, and shared the stage with the likes of Peanut Butter Wolf, Daedelus, Ghosts on Tape, Nocando, Eliot Lipp, and more.

Echale! will start at 6pm with Il Sogno and Sandbar chef proprietor, Andrew Weissman, serving hand crafted picnic food on the patio of parkside Sandbar. Chef Johnny Hernandez, whose riverside La Gloria is open on Sunday night, will offer selections from his Mexican street food menu . Beer, wine, sparkling wine and aguqas fresca will be served as well

The Pearl amphitheater seats roughly 1,000, but Pearl is inviting latecomers to bring lawn chairs and blankets in case seating is scarce. Feel free to bring snacks and refreshments, but no alcoholic beverages are permitted.

Parking will be available onsite, and please make sure to remember the Kohler garage, which has more than 300 parking spaces.
