"After joining forces in 2010, the Iowa-based quartet Dream Thieves (keyboardist Josh Samek, guitarist Nate Leutzinger, beatmaster Bernardo Moreira, and vocalist Andrea Sheehan) converted an Iowa City garage into a practice space and recording studio dubbed "La Sierra." Over the course of a year there, the band wrote and recorded Ocean Spell, a solid debut album that meshes elements of shoegaze, dreampop, and electronica with satisfying results. With a hypnotic, DIY sound that cleverly balances the rough with the polished, Dream Thieves aim to "bridge the gap between technology and humanity." To get a taste of their personalized version of post-modern dance music, stop by Boneshakers Friday night, when they'll share a bill with two local bands: "surfgaze" three-piece The Saturday Night Satellites and psychedelic noise-rock trio The Vanity Press."
