"Team Gordon" Launch Party, Saturday Jan. 29th @ Studio 13

San Antonio Music Fans! "Team Gordon," a force dedicated to reshaping, reorganizing, and reinventing conventional music standards, has been gradually escalating the spark to reignite the proverbial powder-keg of homegrown music, arts, and entertainment in the Alamo City.

This Saturday marks a pivotal moment in the history of San Antonio music. Team Gordon is inspired by internationally recognized recording engineer, Gordon Raphael.

Working with such reputable names such as Regina Spektor and The Strokes, Gordon has come to San Antonio to offer his traveled wisdom to a city's growing music scene he believes can prosper.

Join us in celebrating music, art, handwork, life and the continued life of a music scene that has been the result of hundreds and thousands of people, countless hours of work and practice towards a better tomorrow.

The music begins shortly after 10PM, with a special acoustic performance by Jeremiah
Bredvad.

The Great '85 will be next, in full throw-back effect with their unique two-piece set up and own brand of ALL 1985 inspired tunes. Tangible Green is going to close out the night, and will begin playing around 12:30. Let them soothe away your sorrows for you...

If that just gets you on the fence, the beer and wine is always flowing at Studio 13, dozens of hookah flavors and one of the most chill live music atmospheres this city provides only heightens your experience.

Please check it out...

Two reasons I'm posting this; first Braxton Curry has been a very loyal supporter of SA Rocks from the beginning, so I in turn want to support him in his new business! The second reason is the freakin' foundations in SA are notorious for shifting, etc. Unfortunately my family and I had to sell our home there due to no one giving us a fair shake, so give him a call should you ever have problems!

Monahans Make Their San Antonio Debut Saturday, Jan. 15 @ Limelight with Blowing Trees & Fear Snakeface

Monahans
By Thumbtack Media
Dated: Jan 05, 2011

Monahans from Austin, TX make their San Antonio debut at the Limelight on January 15, 2011. Sharing the bill are local acts Blowing Trees and Fear Snakeface.

Critically praised Austin-based band Monahans will be performing for the first time ever in San Antonio this month. They will be playing at the Limelight on Saturday, Jan. 15th starting at 11:45 PM, and will be sharing the bill with Fear Snakeface and Blowing Trees, both local San Antonio acts.

(Doors will open at 10
PM and the cover charge is $5. Located at 2718 N. St. Mary's Street)

This year alone, Monahans has been busier than ever. Starting off the year as Austin Monthly and Tribeza Magazine's "Bands to Watch in 2010", Monahans embarked on a new recording process in March. They started recording and releasing a new free track each month that was downloadable on their website, http://monahans.net

Their last track, released in December, featured the vocals of Sinéad O'Connor. Monahans also was invited to play Austin City Limits Satellite Sets for a live taping that was broadcast online http://www.klru.org/satellitesets/artist/monahans/

And, finally, Robert Plant included a song written and recorded by members of Monahans (when they were formerly Milton Mapes), on his new album "Band of Joy". "The Only Sound That Matters" was originally included on "The State Line", issued in 2001.

Monahans Biography:
Austin-based band Monahans (not "The Monahans"), named for a region of desolate West Texas sandhills, balances thundering rhythms and atmospheric "landscape rock" with urgent pop anthems and spiritual, campfire balladry (Explosions In the Sky + R.E.M + Neil Young). Since their 2006 inception, Monahans have toured in support of Centro-matic and Cowboy Junkies, and played alongside the likes of J. Tillman & Magnolia Electric Co. Albums to date include 'Low Pining' (2007, Undertow) and 'Dim The Aurora' (2009, Misra).

The band's lineup consists of Ramble Creek studio engineer/producer Britton Beisenherz, Roberto Sanchez and Greg Vanderpool (both founding members of Milton Mapes), and longtime Spoon bassist Joshua Zarbo.
