Barriba Cantina revving up the bands, happy hour
It’s not unusual to see downtown bars and restaurants toy with live music. Barriba Cantina has decided it’s not messing around.
The River Walk restaurant has been doing the live music since opening in September, but the schedule seems to have intensified in recent weeks. Its November lineup was released last week and its yummy. Especially yummy, are the acts scheduled for its Friday happy hour. This week, its bluesy-rock outfit Los Mescaleros. And on the weekends, there seem to be even more acts. And it’s all offered with no cover.
And there is now happy hour 3-6 p.m. Monday-Friday with $4 drafts, $4 wells and $2 off all signature cocktails. In a previous post, I railed against how expensive Barriba was out of the gate. It’s still expensive, no doubt. And I understand you can’t survive on Bar America prices if you’re on the River Walk. But at least they’re offering options, and consistent indigenous music.
I may not become a regular, but, if there’s a really good band playing during happy hour on Friday, I’ll go for 2-3 beers.
