Pop Pistol presents ‘Animal Prisms’
San Antonio trio set to release second full length album...

San Antonio, TX - DIY rockers Pop Pistol are excited to announce October 26 as the official release date for their forthcoming album, ‘Animal Prisms’. The group prepares for a media blitz leading up to an Album Release Party at Jack’s Bar that Friday night. The all-ages event will be a flat $10 cover charge to include a copy of the new album. DJ Stereyo and Terpsi plus up-and-coming local rock band Attica are also featured as support for the celebration.
Local atmospheric rock trio Pop Pistol has been around since 2006, though the Highlands HS alumni (all of them class of ‘03) have been creating music together since they were schoolmates. Their first full-length album ‘Angelus’ (2008) met positive reviews, and amid two more EP releases since, Pop Pistol became a national touring act two summers ago. This year has been especially eventful for the band, having shared the stage with national acts including Dev and Minus The Bear, gracing the cover of Ignite SA Magazine, and being voted Best Indie Rock Band by readers of the San Antonio Current. Ten years of musical history culminates in the release of ‘Animal Prisms’.
The release of ‘Animal Prisms’ is a milestone for the band as their second full-length album for several reasons. The band recorded, produced, and engineered the entire project themselves with help from former Grammy nominated engineer Bob Catlin leading the mastering process. The album will be released through Mitote Records, the band’s own imprint label.
What began in a transformed laundry room last December has blossomed into a multi-faceted conceptual art project. Guitarist/singer/graphic designer for the band, Alex Scheel has intertwined each of the songs with hand drawn animal characters representing various states of the human psyche. The pieces are being organized into a physical calendar (release tba) that diverges from the Gregorian calendar by following the coming 13 lunar cycles instead of 12 months. A few of the animal characters are being featured in a music video for song “No New Years Know”. The video is a collaboration with Zaa Zaa Productions. As for the album itself, ‘Animal Prisms’ will be presented as 8 tracks available on 12” vinyl, CD, and MP3 formats. The digital CD and online versions will also feature 5 bonus tracks. Post release, the band is set to tour the Midwest, up to Philadelphia and NYC, and back.
