Big E and the Wild Hairs celebrate ‘Bona Fide’ album
release
Veteran musicians join forces; April 13
CD release party in San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO – After a year of writing and
recording, an experienced group of Texas-based musicians with an eclectic
variety of backgrounds will celebrate the release of their first album of
Texas-style blues rock on April 13 at the Olmos Bharmacy.
Big E and the Wild Hairs’ album, “Bona
Fide,” has been available for several weeks on iTunes, Amazon and numerous
other download sites. The 12-song
collection is now available on CD, as well.
“We’ve been describing it as Texas-fried,
electrified and bona fide blues rock since we started writing,” said vocalist
and harmonica player Eric Whittington.
“It’s straight up rockin’ blues that fans of ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughan
and Doyle Bramhall should enjoy. There’s
a lot of Texas in the recipe and it goes great with a cold brew and a plate of
barbecued ribs.”
Whittington fronted the long-running
classic and blues rock cover band Exit 314 before embarking on the Big E
project. Joining him in the new band are
songwriting partner Dave Duggins on guitar, who also produced the album at his
Silvern Studios in San Antonio; Ed Shaw on bass, whose resume includes backing
up Smokey Robinson and Chuck Berry as well as serving as bass player and musical
director for the Coasters; and John Burgess on drums, whose musical journey has
crisscrossed the U.S. and Europe. San
Antonio singer Sharon Garcia is heard on a few tracks and ace sound engineer
Rick Moyer completes the lineup.
The album has been well received, pushing
the band to the No. 2 spot among San Antonio blues outfits tracked by
ReverbNation.
The CD release party on April 13 kicks off
at 8 p.m. with a classic car “show & shine” by Alamo City Rods. From 9 p.m. to midnight, the band will take
the stage to showcase tracks from the album as well as covers of well-known and
not-so-well-known artists and songs that fit the roadhouse vibe, from the
Fabulous Thunderbirds to Jeff Healy, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Delbert
McClinton, Johnny Cash and others. “Bona
Fide” CDs and Big E and the Wild Hairs T-shirts will also be available.
(A week later, on April 20, the band will
play the 13th Annual Fiesta De Las Veteranos event benefitting
Fisher House. The event runs from 12
noon until 4 p.m. at the Texas Roadhouse, 16915 San Pedro)
