"In the modern music world, there is a
propensity for smoke and mirrors, and powder and paint to prime an
artist for public consumption.... That's what makes it all the sweeter
on the rare occasion that a performer like PATRICE PIKE (Visit Patrice's Official Website) comes along.
Billboard Magazine
proclaimed Patrice Pike "one of the finest up and coming contemporary
rock singers in America".... A wonderful accolade from such an important
barometer of the music business, but that tag really only scratches the
surface. Patrice's music and her life are mirror images of sorts. Both
are teeming with a rootsy soulfulness that can only emanate from the
heart. And the voice? Yes, she possesses a rich, deeply-expressive
voice, that stands out well-above any crop of "rock star" vocalists that
one could assemble. What completes the package, is that, this voice is
delivering the true-world songs of a woman who lives her life with a
wide-eyed sense of adventurism, passion and freedom. Margaret Moser (of The Austin Chronicle) calls Patrice "Exuberantly Soulful", and in the words of one of Pike's fans "Patrice is truly unforgettable. I listen to her as much as I can. I love the love she sings. I know it's real."
As a co-founder of seminal Austin jam band, Sister Seven, at the age of 16, Pike set out on a musical journey that would, at once, shape and be shaped by her soul, with every step along the way. While still in her teens, Patrice wrote and sang Sister Seven's top 10 Billboard hit "Know What You Mean', and won the Grand Prize in the USA Songwriting Competition. But, before they band had it's chance to shine for the masses, their record company, Arista Records, went through a major shakeup, which led to the departure of it's legendary president, Clive Davis, as well as several of it's developing artists being dropped -- including Sister Seven.
With the early introduction to, and experiences in the world of the major label music industry in-tow, Patrice was more determined than ever, to create and share her muse with the world, in the most honest, self-reflective way that she knew how. In the years following the 2000 breakup of Sister Seven, Pike has toured the states and the world relentlessly. Her evolution as a songwriter and performer are nothing short of extraordinary. Many say that she is creating the finest, most defining musical work of her career right now.
In this age of music industry decline, Patrice Pike's honesty and
dedication has helped her to build a strong, devoted grass-roots fan
base, and to release her own music on her own terms. And her commitment
doesn't end with the music. Patrice is a respected social and
environmental activist, co-founder and Executive Director of the Grace
Foundation of Texas (an organization that provides services for young
adult survivors of homelessness), and she has a disciplined meditation
and Yoga practice. Because of all of this, Patrice has earned the love
and respect of countless fans, friends, and fellow musicians around the
globe.
Special guest SAM VILLELA (Visit Villela on Facebook) is best known to fans of SEXTO SOL as their blazingly stirring vocalist and Hammond organ player. drawing equal inspiration from such Chicano soul legends as Santana, Malo, Sauce Gonzalez and Ernie and Randy Garibay, and 60's soul/R&B icons Booker T., Otis Redding, James Brown and Al Green, Sam mixes in a healthy dose of his own contemporary rhythm & blues and gospel fire, to offer up an ideally-blended and quintessentially "Now" sound!"
