ÉCHALE! LATINO MUSIC ESTYLES RETURNS TO PEARL WITH THREE DATES THIS FALL
- Popular Music Series Sponsored by Corona Extra, Gibson, Red Bull Panamerika and Cadillac Featuring Genre-Bending Latin Music
From San Antonio to the Farthest Reaches of Latin America...
August 21, 2013 (San Antonio, TX) San Antonio’s popular Latin music
series, Échale! Latino Music Estyles, returns this fall with the
greatest lineup yet. Sponsored by Corona Extra, Gibson, Red Bull
Panamerika and Cadillac, the free concert series is scheduled at Pearl
for three dates this fall: Friday, September 13th at 7:00 p.m.; Friday,
October 4th at 7:00 p.m.; and Friday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m.
Launched in March 2011, Échale! has featured the musical talents of
Ozomatli, Bomba Estereo, Girl in a Coma, Ana Tijoux, Brownout, Antibalas
and many more. This celebration of Latin music combines the best of
Pearl and its commitment to the preservation of Latin American arts and
culture that is so prevalent in the San Antonio community. Original
artwork created specifically for Échale by famed San Antonio artist Cruz
Ortiz will also be on site and available for purchase.
"We
are excited to announce our fall 2013 ÉCHALE! lineup," said Elizabeth
Fauerso, Chief Marketing Officer at Pearl. "The Échale! music series is
beloved in our community, and Pearl is happy to be home to such an
eclectic music series.”
Échale! Latino Music Estyles kicks off
with Piñata Protest and Making Movies on Friday, September 13th. Piñata
Protest is a four-piece, accordion-fronted punk rock band from San
Antonio, Texas. Their Selena-meets-Slayer sound is a fresh mixture of
punk rock and Tex-Mex; an intoxicating border mash-up of The Ramones and
Ramon Ayala. An American band from Kansas City, Missouri, Making Movies
puts a psychedelic twist on the Latin American “son” with rhythms
rooted deeply afro-latino traditions like the cumbia, mambo and dembow
with lyrics in both English and Spanish.
Carla Morrison and David Garza will take over the Pearl stage on Friday, October 4th.
Two-time Latin Grammy winner Carla Morrison, is a singer-songwriter from
Tecate, Mexico with a colossal imagination that allows her to weave
magical songs that captivate the audience. Another crowd favorite, David
Garza, is an Austin-based singer-songwriter who infuses rock and pop
with a Latin twist. His vocal style has drawn comparisons to Freddy
Mercury and Jeff Buckley. The combination of these two eclectic artists
will surely create one memorable Échale! series.
Échale! fall
series wraps up with Los Master Plus and Master Blaster Sound System on
Friday, November 8th. Self-proclaimed “jefes del vacilon” Los Master
Plus are bringing their cumbia-infused and ingenious covers from the
great city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. With their handlebar
mustaches, cowboy hats and cumbia swagger, these guys will make you
fired up to dance all night. Master Blaster Sound System is a cumbia
electronica band from Austin and Corpus Christi. The five-piece band
blends fresh beats from cumbia, hip-hop and Norteño music. Since 2010,
the band has been pushing live beats and a full band creating a bridge
between DJ culture and a live performance.
The Pearl
amphitheater seats roughly 1,000 and Pearl invites latecomers to bring
lawn chairs and blankets if seating is scarce. Pearl is located at 200
E. Grayson St. in San Antonio, Texas. Parking will be available onsite,
and please make sure to remember the Kohler garage, which has more than
300 parking spaces.
