"San Antonio, TX - Main Plaza Conservancy and P.E.A.C.E. Initiative extend an open invitation to join community members downtown at Main Plaza, in the heart of the city, on Saturday, September 28 for PEACE in the Plaza, SA’s own launch event honoring National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This family friendly, free event runs from 11AM to 5PM and will feature guest speakers, live local music, kids activities, food, and information from some of SA’s prominent grassroots organizations all in the name of putting an end to domestic violence and raising awareness about the effects it has in all of our lives.

October is recognized nationally as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. For years, P.E.A.C.E. Initiative has led SA in organizing teach-ins, panels, workshops, and other events to spread awareness about the real threat our communities face because of prevailing domestic violence issues. This year, Main Plaza Conservancy (MPC) sponsors the official launch event and commencement ceremonies / press conference. Together MPC and P.E.A.C.E. Initiative will transform Main Plaza into a concert and rally embracing men, women, and children in solidarity with intentions of healing by modeling non-violence, honoring the value of equality, magnifying the inherent power in women, respecting the prophetic role of children and youth, and by offering the boys and young men of our city another way to live out their masculinity nonviolently. Be drenched in song, sound, and senses with live music from Mexican StepGrandfather, Saakred, Juan and Armando Tejeda performing Traditional Conjunto Music & Musica del Movimiento Xicano, The Sky Divided, Greg G and Elora & Gasoline Alley.

P.E.A.C.E. stands for Putting and End to Abuse through Community Efforts. The mission of P.E.A.C.E. Initiative is to educate our community about the extent and often deadly consequences, of domestic violence and to respond effectively through collaborative partnerships. They offer education and training as well as services and programming specifically for men, past offenders, and the immigrant community.

Main Plaza Conservancy is dedicated to providing San Antonio and its visitors with the cultural and historical “heart of the city,” bringing an awareness of family and community combined with history and heritage.  Founded in 2007, MPC is committed to providing SA and its visitors with the historical and cultural heart of the city.  MPC is charged to create a community atmosphere that engages the city’s identity through a program of quality cultural programs, creating a public space that is family-friendly and accessible to all ages and all economic sectors."
