SAN ANTONIO — Marking a significant
step in the redevelopment of HemisFair Park, officials are poised to
unveil next week draft plans for a sprawling new “play environment” that
includes sand and water features, climbing structures and plazas aimed
at attracting children and adults alike.
Once completed, the project will become the first example of what San
Antonians can expect in the redevelopment of the area that hosted the
1968 World's Fair.
“We're going to put the 'park' back into HemisFair Park,” Mayor
Julián Castro said, “and turn it into a fantastic green space where
families can enjoy themselves.”
The Hemisfair Park Area Redevelopment Corp. is scheduled to present
its draft schematic design to the city's Historic and Design Review
Commission next Wednesday for conceptual approval.
