"After more than a year of planning and organizing, Palo Alto College is establishing its Center for Mexican American Studies.

A grand opening celebration is set for 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the central courtyard of the college, 1400 W. Villaret, near the intersection of Loop 410 and Texas 16.

“The establishment of the Center for Mexican American Studies will create a larger and more valued cultural awareness at Palo Alto College,” said College President Mike Flores. “The center will work closely with the Mexican American Studies students and our community to provide quality events and education to nurture this culture and keep it present in San Antonio.”

The center is the first in the Alamo Colleges system and one of only two at community colleges statewide. It was formally approved in 2013 to coordinate the associate's degree in Mexican American Studies."
