Jonny Gray at 502 Bar

"With an artist this pure, it’s easy to say, “let the music speak for itself.” But that would be robbing you of a glimpse at the man behind the oxymoronic notes that ring both new and familiar.
Our El Paso native Jonny Gray, long-haired, liberal X-soldier honed his skills during two tours in the blistering heat of the Iraqi desert. In June of 2006, he returned to U.S. soil to serve in San Antonio, Texas where he completed his service in January of 2007. He chose to stay for a time to write, collaborate & occasionally tour with local bands. By now it was clear to see the stage was where he belonged. In 2009 he returned to his solo project & soon made his way to Austin, Texas to share his work with a new audience & release his first EP, “Sail it Away.”
At first meeting, he seems a soft-spoken man of few words; more content behind his mane than in the spotlight. And then you hear him wail. Though slight in stature, his mighty voice tells you honest stories both of love and often loss over thoughtfully picked-at strings. It’s only a matter of time before your strangely nostalgia-seeped mind understands why his close to newer friends proudly call themselves “fan.”
