Review: Rok Candy at Roxy's

Thanks to Anthony Castilla of SpitFire and The Guitar Zone for this review of Rok Candy at Roxy Sports Bar last week:

Thursday night 12/1/05, I went to check out Rok Candy at Roxy’s Sports Bar on Wurzbach. I was pretty impressed with the amount of people at Roxy’s supporting the band that early. (As soon as I walked in the door I went, 'Wow, not bad for a Thursday!') I was chatting with Ernie the guitar player and Dave, Rok Candy’s sound man about guitar and sound geek stuff for a while. We were waiting for the Spurs to finish off the Mavs before Rok Candy hit the stage.

Duke the singer, Ernie Cruz and the rest of guys in Rok Candy hit the stage about 10:05 PM. These guys belted out some great tunes like The Cults - Love Removal, 3 doors Down – Kryptonite, Collective Soul - Heavy, Tonic songs and some classic rock. Being a guitar player, my highlight was Ernie Cruz’s version of Crush of Love by Joe Satriani. Ernie tore up that Satriani song and added some high energy riffs & licks of his own. Rok Candy as a band is coming along nicely; can’t wait to hear them again. You can tell this band has what it takes, for Rok Candy being a new band. I give them 4 jalapeƱos!
