SIX-STRING MASTERPIECES:
THE DIMEBAG DARRELL ART TRIBUTE
Rock Stars and Tattoo Artists join forces for music education & to pay tribute to metal's greatest guitarist.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The exhibit is a charitable Art Exhibit that will tour the US and abroad throughout 2006, followed by an auction of the guitars to benefit foundations dedicated to art & music education.
This exhibit will feature 35 of the DEAN ML Guitars that have been hand-painted, illustrated and sculpted by many of America's favorite rock musicians and tattoo artists. Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Deftones, Korn, Van Halen, Slayer, Billy Corgan, Zakk Wylde, Dave Navarro, recent Grammy Award winners Kelly Clarkson and Linkin Park, as well as top artists from the modern art & tattoo world such as Paul Booth, Guy Aitchison, Filip Leu, Aaron Cain and Jack Rudy have donated their time and talent to create this charitable event in support of music education and to pay tribute to one of the most respected and cherished rock musicians to ever pick up an instrument – Dimebag Darrell Abbott of Pantera & Damage Plan.
This exhibit is a memorial tribute to the greatest metal guitarist of all time, DIMEBAG DARRELL ABBOTT. This is an unprecedented happening, featuring multi-platinum artists coming together to memorialize a great friend and artist, and to create positive community support through an anti-violence and pro-education message.
Guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott, drummer Vinnie Paul and bassist Rex Brown were the formation of what would become PANTERA . Pantera's rise to metal fame was catapulted by the release of ‘Cowboys from Hell' in 1990. ‘Vulgar Display of Power' followed and with it, brought the band star status and domination in the hard rock/metal music community for a decade. The band received four GRAMMY nominations, Platinum for ‘The Great Southern Trendkill' , ‘Cowboys From Hell' and ‘Pantera's Greatest Hits' and Double Platinum for ‘Vulgar Display of Power' and ‘Far Beyond Driven' that had its debut at Number One on the Billboard album chart . Released in 2000, ‘Reinventing the Steel' was the final studio effort from the band. Darrell and Vinnie went on to form Damageplan , releasing ‘New Found Power' in 2003. During a Damageplan performance in Columbus , Ohio on December 8, 2004 , Dimebag Darrell Abbott was fatally shot at the age of 38. This was met with an incredible outpouring from the entire music industry. Darrell was extremely cherished and respected by artists of all genres.
The actual guitar model being used as the “canvas” is the DEAN ML, originally designed in 1976 by DEAN ZELINSKY, the founder of DEAN GUITARS. This is DIMEBAG DARRELL'S signature instrument, the exact model he played his whole life. DEAN GUITARS has kindly donated all of the guitars to this project.
Prior to his unfortunate death, Abbott had designed the DIMEBAG DARRELL COLLECTION of ML's with DEAN GUITARS . In accordance with the Abbott family's wishes, these amazingly designed instruments were made available to the public in 2005. DEAN GUITARS remains committed to keeping DIMEBAG DARRELL'S dream alive of making the finest metal guitars in the world bearing his name.
A preview of SIX STRING MASTERPIECES was recently unveiled to 40,000 people at Winter NAMM (Jan. 2006), one of the music industries most essential events as well as at South by Southwest. The exhibit received incredible response and is now poised to be one of the most appealing and talked about art exhibits of 2006.
