SUPER SOUL SHAKEDOWN IS TAKING IT BACK TO THE OLD SCHOOL:
SAN ANTO SOUL LEGENDS
Super Soul Shakedown returns for its final show of the year on Saturday, October 15th 9 p.m. at Sam's Burger Joint, 330 E. Grayson. This time around, its creators are bringing back the great musical era of Chicano Soul in San Antonio with performances by: Sauce Gonzalez & the Westside Horns featuring Louie Bustos, Spot Barnett, Henry Rivas, Al Gomez, and Kevin Hess with vocalist Little Roger playing the REAL Westside Sound.

This edition will also feature special guests The Legendary Joe Jama (The Royal Jesters) and Rudy T (Reno Bops). The entrance fee to witness this historic event in San Antonio is a mere ten dollars and open to music lovers of all ages beginning at 9 p.m.

Chicano Soul has its roots grounded in the Southwestern region of the United States and is representative of Doo-Wop, Rhythm & Blues, Rock & Roll, and Soul recorded by Chicanos during the late 1950s and 60s. Popular San Antonio Chicano Soul artists from that time included The Royal Jesters, Sonny Ace & The Twisters, Rudy T & Reno Bops, The Lyrics and many more. Their tones filled San Antonio's nightclubs as well as its airwaves and helped establish a community that would create a definitive movement in San Antonio history.

The Super Soul Shakedown is bringing together some of the greatest Chicano Soul artists from San Antonio from past and present for this special, one-night-only event. "For San Antonio, Texas, one of the main catalysts of Chicano Soul, the music was not only a source of identification and purpose for those who penned the compositions that ultimately make up the extensive discography of recordings, but it was also a simple source of joy and leisure that ultimately fueled a support network and a vibrant sense of community," JJ Lopez.

The Super Soul Shakedown is supported by 91.7 FM KRTU, Wax Poetics Magazine, and The San Antonio Current. The Super Soul Shakedown has become the South's definitive dance party that pays tribute to the rich history of original soul music of the 60's and 70's. The magic of this quarterly event lies heavily in the cross pollination of the older & younger generations of soul & funk enthusiasts.
