"When not recording or touring with his other bands, Calexico and DeVotchKa, Sergio Mendoza leads his other project inspired by the legendary Cuban bandleaders Perez Prado and Tito Puente and Latin jazz of the 1940s and 50s. Sergio Mendoza Y La Orkesta combine Cumbia, Mambo and other Latin styles with a psychedelic-tinged rock that has been described as "Indie Mambo." Their debut studio album Mambo Mexicano was recently released on Cosmica Records.
