"It's
a bittersweet time for singer, songwriter and guitar ace Claude “Butch”
Morgan. A valuable fixture on the San Antonio/Texas music scene for
decades, Morgan celebrated the release of his new CD, “Dry,” at the
Kerrville Folk Festival. On June 11, Butch's dad and best friend, Claude
Morgan Sr., passed away at 96. Butch, his family and Morgan family
friends buried Claude Sr. last Saturday.
Saturday, Butch, aided
and abetted by bassist Robert “Robar” Adams and fiddler Kim Hubbeling
(formerly Kim Mackenzie), will stage a “Dry” release party at Art Works
Studio, 1840 Nacogdoches Road. There's a potluck meal at 6:30 p.m.,
music at 7:30. Cover is $15.
Like his dad, Butch Morgan is a natural-born storyteller. “Dry” features
a dozen of Morgan's tales set to folk/country/rock along with his
on-the-mark guitar picking. Songs including “Ol' Black Crow,” “Cowboy
and His Coffee,” “Western World,” “There's Always Love,” “Eddie” and
“Blubberball” work as entertainment and as cause for thought. Morgan
masterfully mixes humor and pathos while opening ears and hearts.
