Bandera native finds home on the open road— on stage and behind the scenes

Lee Winright hit the road with Robert Earl Keen’s tour as a teen and hasn’t looked back since. “I was his everything guy. I drove. I ran the sound. I was the guitar tech,” he says. “I loved being on the road. I don’t know what I’d do if I ever stopped moving.” The gig was just the start of Winright’s music career that has included behind-the-scenes jobs on various national tours as well as a solo album and plenty of live shows of his own. He’s working to produce his second solo album this year, and sat down with us to share some insights from his life in the music business.
