Swindles Saturday night at Riley's! Horseshoes & Hotrods!

Hotrods, Horseshoes & The Swindles!

Riley's Tavern in Hunter TX

That's Riley's smack dab in the middle of downtown Hunter Texas! What a great place! You've heard me call it the Taco Land of the sticks, you've heard me praise the low ceilings and the handmade latrines! But there's more.. Hotrods and horseshoes is the law of the land at Riley's and let me tell you, every time the Swindles have played at Hunter, I've seen some bad ass cars. I have never been a big fan of horseshoes or washers so I can't really say anything other than if I was an aficionado of the "sport" I would undoubtedly pick Riley's arena for the world championships.

The Eden of Hunter Texas!

Rileys Tavern Outside

Hidden deep within the bustling town of Hunter lies this small oasis with a couple of huge oak trees and plenty of cold beer. If the shade from the oaks are not enough, you can find safe haven deep in the womb of Riley's new tastefully expanded, air conditioned and always fully stocked, bar!

The first bar after prohibition. He did it for us!

It's true. Prohibition had just ended. Hallelujah! In a moment of clarity on September of 1933, J. C. Riley, at the age of 17, drove 45 miles to Austin with his uncle in a Model "T" car in order to obtain a license for his soon-to-be beer joint.

He camped out on the steps of the Capital building and waited for it to open. He was the first person in line and subsequently received the honor of being issued the numero uno post prohibition pioneering beer license in the state! He did it for us!
