SAN ANTONIO, TX
— English new wave meets American alternative rock when
The Psychedelic Furs and The Lemonheads play the Empire Theater (226 N. St. Mary’s St) on
Wednesday, November 5 at 8:00PM.
If you were to dissect the alternative rock dominating today's music, you'll find that much of it pays homage to
The Psychedelic Furs. Led by vocalist and songwriter Richard
Butler, and his bass-wielding brother Tim, the Furs won over fans and
critics alike by combining poetic lyrics, innovative rhythms and
melodies driven by an aggressive, punk desperation. The
band scored hits with "Love My Way," "Pretty In Pink," "Heaven," "The Ghost In You" and
“Heartbreak Beat.” They have released seven studio albums, several compilations, a boxed set
and a live concert DVD.Evan Dando formed The Lemonheads with two high school buddies in late '86, in their senior year at Boston's tiny Commonwealth School. A few months later, they spawned what is now one of the most sought-after punk relics of the 80s, the indie EP Laughing All the Way to the Cleaners. The Lemonheads' popularity grew in the 90s with the major label album It's a Shame about Ray featuring "Confetti" and "My Drug Buddy." In 1993, Come on Feel The Lemonheads brought Dando the charting single "Into Your Arms" as well as classics such as "Great Big No," "Down About It" and "Being Around." The Lemonheads cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson” became one of the band’s most successful singles.
