Bombasta y Sexto Sol Collaborate at Sam's

Bombasta and Sexto Sol

DOUBLE HEADER AT SAM’S JAN.14th
Bombasta and Sexto Sol to share Sam’s Burger Joint stage in unique collaboration

Two of San Antonio’s most creative Chicano bands will return to the stage on January 14th to reunite for their bi-monthly event entitled “Barrio Massive 3: A Bombasta & Sexto Sol Collaboration.” After two highly successful performances at Sam’s Burger Joint, the two band collaboration has become a new cultural experience for a wide cross section of the city. Bridging new school cumbia funk with old school Latin soul, Bombasta & Sexto Sol are carving out a new musical history for San Antonio.

In a departure from the typical opening-band/ headlining-band format, the two groups will share the stage at Sam’s Burger Joint the entire evening. Both bands have developed into a brotherhood of musicians and will be rotating on and off stage, playing each other’s songs and closing out the night with a jam session on some classic Chicano standards. This event will also consist of performances by local DJ’s, poets and video artists. Saturday night’s show is the third in a series of “Barrio Massive” performances scheduled to take place over the next several months at Sam’s Burger Joint.

Bombasta fuses musica Chicana, reggae, cumbias and funk into a fresh mix of beats, rhymes and horn lines. The group is currently finishing their first independent CD release entitled Ill Movimiento, to be released early 2006. Sexto Sol brings sounds reminiscent of 70’s Style Chicano Soul and is currently promoting their new album ¡Gozalo! They have become an integral part of San Antonio’s artistic and cultural community with a loyal base of fans that
continues to grow.

The strong social consciousness of both bands is evident in both their lyrics and business style. They have invited community activist organizations and local vendors to set up tables at what’s sure to be a well-attended musical event. Contact Roberto Livar at 210.844.8043 for more information. Visit band websites at bombasta.com and sextosolsa.com for band bios, press clippings, fan postings, images, etc. Doors open at 9 PM; music continues until 2 AM.
